For this week’s song lyric Sunday they have challenged us to find some elevator music.
This is where you will probably find some strange information about me and the way my mind works!
The first thing that came to my mind was the theme tune for a soap opera that someone addicted me to watch while in university. My general reason for this was that it was so bad it was brilliant! Re-watching it these days reminds me how bad it really was, but it is still entertaining in its own way. I think the theme tune would make perfect elevator music!
I couldn’t resist putting this song in here even though the Foo Fighters could never be described as elevator music as they are not exactly easy listening! However, the video has meant it will permanently associate them with elevator music! I think you will see why when you watch the video!
Foo Fighters Lyrics
“Monkey Wrench”
What have we done with innocence?
It disappeared with time, it never made much sense
Adolescent resident
Wasting another night on planning my revenge
One in ten
One in ten
One in ten
Don’t want to be your monkey wrench
One more indecent accident
I’d rather leave than suffer this
I’ll never be your monkey wrench
All this time to make amends
What do you do when all your enemies are friends?
Now and then I’ll try to bend
Under pressure, wind up snapping in the end
One in ten
One in ten
One in ten
Don’t want to be your monkey wrench
One more indecent accident
I’d rather leave than suffer this
I’ll never be your monkey wrench
Temper
Temper
Temper
One last thing before I quit
I never wanted any more than I could fit
Into my head
I still remember every single word you said
And all the shit that somehow came along with it
Still there’s one thing that comforts me
Since I was always caged and now I’m free
Don’t want to be your monkey wrench
One more indecent accident
I’d rather leave than suffer this
I’ll never be your monkey wrench
Don’t want to be your monkey wrench (fall in, fall out)
Don’t want to be your monkey wrench (fall in, fall out)
Don’t want to be your monkey wrench (fall in, fall out)
Don’t want to be your monkey wrench
Writer(s): Nate Mendel, David Eric Grohl, Pat Ruthensmear
Dave Grohl wrote this song about his former wife Jennifer Youngblood. He told Mojo magazine in January 2010, “It’s about living with someone and feeling like you’re living in a fucking cell. And then I wound up getting a divorce.”
This song is the first single from their second album.
The bridge of this song is very difficult for Dave Grohl to sing live because it was yelled all in one breath on the studio recording. During their concerts Grohl usually let the crowd scream the bridge out.
Dave Grohl directed the music video himself. When he enters a lift in the video, a lounge version of Foo Fighters’ song “Big Me” is heard. That version was made by the duo Moog Cookbook, whose cover version of “Smells Like Teen Spirit” Grohl liked.
An interesting choice Angie. I loved the video and the music.

I know that the foo fighters are not your average piece of elevator music! That is why I also included the theme for Sunset Beach. Thank you for watching, hosting, and commenting.
