This week’s photo prompt is provided by Louise with The Storyteller’s Abode. Thank you Louise!
Christine gave a sigh of remembrance as she watched the boat sail by. She could still remember when everybody used cars and buses on wheels. Ever since global warming had really started to kick in with the ice caps melting cars had become a thing of the past. There were no roads anymore I’m right which had been caused by rising sea levels.
Her son Dan jumped off the bus through what had previously been a first story window but was now the front door. He looked critically at her, “Mum, are you being sentimental again? You look like you are going to cry.”
“I just wish we had listened to all the warnings.”
“There is no point in living in our yesterday’s and wondering what if. We can’t go back and change the past so we have to make the most of our future and the way it is now.”
She gave him a watery smile. “You are probably right. Besides, no cars means no pollution. Better late than never.”

I hope we learn before it comes to this, although it will probably take until this point for people to give up using cars. Excellent take on the prompt.

I think it would definitely take this long before people stop using cars. The reason I chose that as my story was that I thought the red and white boats looked like buses! Thanks for reading.

Excellent story! Her son sounds like a very wise boy! Like Iain, I hope it doesn’t ever come to this. That would suck.

I wrote a short story once that suggested the only way to avoid the effects of climate change was to revert to a world wide agrarian society. Probably getting rid of cars wouldn’t be enough. The question is, how much would people be willing to surrender for the sake of the planet’s biosphere?

Sadly, I don’t really think anyone would sacrifice anything. Thanks for reading.

Interesting take Angie. You’re right global warming could result in something like this. Some type if a ‘ Water world.’

Such a scenario is a definite possibility – especially in certain areas of the world. Hopefully enough can be done to halt climate change before it gets that far. Good story, Angie. 🙂
