“This can’t be that hard.” The boy was heard muttering to himself as he laid his head against the piano.
His older sister sat down next to him on the bench and put her hand comfortingly on his shoulder. “Benji, you shouldn’t be too hard on yourself. You have only had one lesson.”
“I don’t know. I just expected it to make sense to me.”
“You are only seven.”
“Mozart was only four!”
“Sometimes you are too clever for your own good. Mind you, the music was like his gift to the world so maybe you have another talent that you just haven’t discovered yet.”
Benji pouted as he thought about everything that Denise was telling him. So maybe he wasn’t going to be the next Mozart, but did that really matter? There were plenty of other ways of making music so maybe the computer was actually where he should be looking.
Denise smiled. “Look, I will teach you how to play Chinese chopsticks if you like. That will really impress your teacher.”
Whatever she was expecting him to say or do it probably wasn’t for him to start screaming in frustration. “It’s not fair, even you can do it!”

Aw poor little guy. That’s tough if even your sister can play piano a bit and you can’t at all. I feel for him. Nice write Angie.

At least she tried to make him feel better, but it only backfired! Sounds a lot like how things happen in life. Great story.

I had the exact same thought about Chopsticks! I pulled up a video to go with my challenge submission 😉 Nice work!

LOL I think it is probably the only thing that most people can actually play on a piano!

Interestingly, I can’t – but “Hot Cross Buns” is another story 😉 My children had never heard of Chopsticks, so I sang my Chopsticks to them with the You Tube video I’d put on my blog…I’d considered recording the words to the music – maybe someday 😉
