Sunday photo fiction: Nothing to fear

The echoing sounds of the scream seemed to reverberate around the walls of the building. The woman sat bolt upright in bed and it seemed to take a long time to recognise that the sound had come from herself.

Sandra seemed to take a while to calm down and she found herself questioning whether or not she had been having a nightmare. She could not remember anything from the time of going to sleep to when she had woken herself up. That was the time she noticed the rumbling thunder sounding in the background. Sandra found herself relaxing at the idea that the lightning that must have come beforehand had roused her from the dream and terrified her enough to make her scream.

β€œThere is nothing to be afraid of,” she whispered as she pulled the covers over her head.

You would not believe that Sandra was a grown woman who was shivering in her bed like a very young child would.

She was trying to block out all the sounds and sights of the storm because it was hard to believe there was nothing to fear when you had seen your own mother die after being struck by lightning.

      1. You’re welcome πŸ™‚ I don’t know anyone who has, but I read about someone who was struck seven times whilst alive, and his grave has been struck several more. Maybe in life he was a conductor πŸ˜‰

      2. That must have actually been the case πŸ™‚ I did seen the video of the guy who was walking along and got struck by lightning twice within a few moments… But he got up and walked away so I guess that there was no harm done!

  1. Wow, that indeed would make storms terrifying. I don’t know how you get over that, losing your mom to lightening and not being afraid in big storms. Well written.
