FFfAW: Marshmallows

It was just a stupid argument that had gone too far. They both knew it the second the lighted match hit the wooden guitar. The fire took hold instantly thanks to the dry weather that they had been having. There was nothing the two of them could do except watch the almost beautiful inferno in front of them.

Her hands flew to her mouth and she sank to her knees. “I am so sorry. David, please believe me, I never meant… This was a mistake.”

David took his eyes away from the flames to look at her. They were cold and angry at the moment because the grief would come much later. The guitar, Betty, had meant the world to him and had been with him since he was small. He threw her the bag of marshmallows that they had been originally arguing about during the camp. “I hope they are worth it, Tricia.” He took one last look at the burning remains before he walked away.

The whole relationship had been mistake he decided.

  1. Silly arguments hey? She shouldn’t have burnt his beloved guitar but honestly if he loved/cared about he would get over it. People are more important than things. Great job’

  2. Aww…the things that people fight about lol…I wonder if maybe the marshmallows were just the last straw for David? Maybe unhappiness with his relationship had been bubbling up inside him for a while. Very well written story, Angie 🙂
