Monday journal… January 4, 2016

It is a Monday once again! Actually the first Monday of a brand-new year, so welcome into 2016 🙂 I am determined that this will be the year that I will find the sort my work in progress out!

Speaking of my work in progress, it is still at just about the same spot it was this time last week. I have written a little bit more, and the word count is now at 76,000. Well, just over any way. I am having trouble with the particular scene because as I was writing it I realised that it was something that I had seen before. It was the moment when Drusilla was torturing Giles in the season finale of Buffy the Vampire Slayer (season two). I realised that I am going to have to tread very carefully in order to avoid plagiarism, which is something that I definitely do not want to do, especially to Joss Whedon.

Have you ever come to that realisation that you have been influenced by something you have read/seen? I would love to hear people’s stories about this.

I think that I am going to struggle with every single scene leading up to the end of my first draft, probably because, on some level, my mind does not want to finish with the story that has been in it for a long period of time. On the other side of it, I really want to get this done so I can say it is finally out of my head!

Not much else has been happening recently, although the challenges in flash fiction writing have been a lot of fun to do, and there have been comments showing me that people are enjoying the efforts.

The amount of people following my blog has now reached 280, which is something of an absolute shock because I didn’t believe that that many people would ever be interested in what I am doing. This shows me that I am doing something right 🙂

So, back to writing I go 🙂

See you next week!

  1. That’s wonderful that your book is so near to being finished. That has got to feel pretty good! I’m happy to hear you enjoy the flash fiction challenges and I am also happy that you participate in FFfAW challenge. I love reading your stories! Congratulations on the amount of followers that you have! That number will go up. 🙂
