“Of all the places I thought I would end up on New Year’s Eve…”
Bobby shuffled his feet, and stuffed his hands in his pocket to mark his frustration. He would have kicked the bowling ball that lay at his feet except he knew how much that actually hurt.
“What was that?” Daniel turned around to regard his teenage son.
“I don’t want to be here!”
Daniel sighed. “We have this discussion every year, and every year you end up enjoying yourself. Look, we are going to see in the New Year the same way we always do. That is, a family night bowling.”
“My friends are having a party…”
“And you are bowling. Now, it is your go.”
Bobby snatched up the ball while making a noise of anger. When he saw all of the pins fall down a grin started to spread on his features. That was the moment that he decided if his parents were so determined to ruin his New Year’s Eve, he was certainly going to destroy them at their chosen game. “Bring it on!”
Daniel turned to Susan and placed a hand on her shoulder. “I told you we would see him smile tonight!”

This is a new challenge that has been started called flash fiction for the purposeful practitioner. You are given the first line and a photo. In other words, this is very much like the Monday, finish the story challenge that is still so sorely missed. Make sure you get behind this one and keep it going 🙂
Thank you soooo much for your early entry. I was having a lot of problems with my “BLUE FROG” … but it is up and running. I would love it if you could repost your story using the InLinkz.

Thanks for looking out for me. But I do have a story from a challenger posted… it now appears to be working. There are times that I wish I were a little more geek-like!

A GREAT first entry! (My first four attempts at this photo have all fallen on their face!) There is nothing better than an intense father/son rivalry. I can often bring out the best in everyone! Or at least it is a great deal of fun for the son… when he wins! Thanks for playing. Thanks for your patience!!! Hope to see you next week.

Just getting the game started helped, but his son’s competitive nature was fueled by the strike. It should prove to be very good family night at the bowling alley. Great story.

A great story Angie. Aren’t kids petulant sometimes. As a parent I’ve been there and done that (many times )
