Standing out

This is my attempt into this week’s Sunday photo fiction challenge. In this challenge we are given a picture, and asked to come up with the story of around 200 words that is inspired by the image.
My story is exactly 200 words long, and this is the image that was provided:

Andy returned home feeling absolutely dejected. Once inside, he made his way to the lounge and just about collapsed on the old green sofa.

His wife, Julie, turned towards him from the small kitchen. “What’s wrong?”

“My stupid boss turned me down for promotion yet again. Why can’t he see that I am management material?” This was the third time in as many months that he had been overlooked by his boss. Andy just could not understand why he was always being ignored when it came to the important things. He had a family just like everybody else, so why was he different?

Julie just shook her head as she started to make a cup of tea to calm him down. “I don’t know, darling. You just have to do something to make yourself stand out from everybody else. Something that makes you seem head and shoulders above the other people. Make it so he can’t ignore you, and you will find that you will be promoted in no time.”

He smiled as an idea started to form in his mind.

Nobody should have been surprised when he pulled into the car park in a monster truck the next day.
